It should come as no surprise that if you want a powerful off-roading vehicle, you should immediately consider a Jeep. If you're looking for a midsize SUV with a modern and high-end interior as well as offers excellent off-road capabilities, the 2023 Jeep Cherokee is a perfect choice. This two-row crossover SUV is one of the oldest in its class, but new features and a mild refresh several years ago keep the Cherokee as a popular option among buyers.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
For the 2023 model year, Jeep revamped the Cherokee's lineup so it now only has two trims: Altitude Lux and Trailhawk. The automaker removed the previous standard front-wheel-drive base trim known as the Cherokee X and the top-of-the-line Limited trim. Jeep also refined the vehicle's front design by including premium LED headlamps, daytime running lamps, and fog lamps. The base trim also has 17-inch black aluminum wheels and black grille surrounds. Adding the Lux Elite package to this trim gives you a sunroof and a hands-free power liftgate.
Engine (Power)
Each trim on the 2023 Jeep Cherokee has its own engine. Jeep replaced the old 3.2-liter V-6 engine on the Altitude Lux with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The Trailhawk has an even more powerful option with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that cranks out 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Both engines use a nine-speed transmission to send power to the wheels.
Performance
Compared to other vehicles in its class, the 2023 Jeep Cherokee achieves excellent numbers and even better numbers since it no longer uses the V-6 engine. Expect to get an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with the Altitude Lux and 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Also, when properly equipped with the Trailer Tow Group, the Cherokee has a maximum towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. This towing capacity is higher than many large SUVs.
Interior
The 2023 Jeep Cherokee's interior has supportive seats, which is helpful when you take the vehicle off-roading. You can also see easily out of the vehicle, thanks to generous glass to minimize blind spots. The base trim comes standard with leather seats and a heated steering wheel. Pertaining to technology, you will have a hard time finding a better infotainment system than the one found on the Cherokee. Its standard Uconnect 4C system has an intuitive 8.4-inch touchscreen display along with navigation, satellite and HD radio, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Safety Features
Jeep knows how important safety is to you and your passengers, which is why the automaker offers more than 80 standard and available safety and security features on the 2023 Cherokee. The vehicle comes standard with forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It also has three available systems that can help you guide your Cherokee into even the tightest parking spaces. A few other features include rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic headlamps, and adaptive cruise control.
