The engine is the heart of a truck, and the RAM 3500 has a lot of heart. Its standard engine is the legendary 6.4L HEMI V8. It delivers 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. It supports on-the-fly shift mapping, allowing changes to the throttle response and torque distribution to enhance performance and fuel economy. The optional 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 offers even more power, supplying 370 hp and 870 lb-ft of torque.

For the ultimate power delivery, the High Output 6.7l Cummins Turbo Diesel pushes out an incredible 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. The best engine choice for you depends on how heavy a load you want to carry or tow. Diesel engines pull heavier loads, but the standard gasoline engine allows your RAM to move faster and uses less fuel due to its reduced weight.

Carrying and Towing Capacity

The standard 6.4L HEMI V8 can carry 7,680 pounds in the bed and tow up to 18,210 pounds when fully equipped for towing. The 6.7L Cummins I6 has the extra power to tow even more, allowing you to haul 22,660 pounds, and its carrying capacity is a healthy 6,830 pounds. If you choose the Cummins High Output option, the towing capacity rises to a massive 37,090 pounds with a payload capacity of 6,560 pounds.
